The Self Managed Superannuation Fund can be invested in a broad range of assets. Regulations require the Trustee/s to establish and implement an investment strategy taking into account such matters as risk, return, diversification, cash flow and liquidity for the “sole purpose” of generating benefits for the members while adhering to proper commercial standards, as well as the consideration of insurance for members.

Investments generally fit into the following categories:

  • Shares
  • Real Property
  • Managed Investments
  • Unit Trusts
  • Mortgage Loans
  • Term Deposits
  • Cash
  • Fixed Interest Securities

The Self Managed Superannuation Fund may acquire personally held assets such as listed securities and “business real property” thereby providing enhanced flexibility in investment, taxation and retirement planning. A fund can also receive certain authorised investments (e.g. listed shares) as contributions.

Fund Trustee/s receive all correspondence including investment reports, share bonus offers and rights issues.

The Self Managed Superannuation Fund allows the Trustee to respond quickly and take advantage of investment market movements, adjusting the portfolio to suit changing perceptions and requirements.

A Self Managed Superannuation Fund is prohibited from borrowing except in some limited circumstances, including acquiring a permissible asset under a limited recourse borrowing arrangement.
